It’s one thing to be in love and another to be loved in return. If you’ve ever declared your love to someone you’ll know how vulnerable opening up your heart makes you. Elation or the depths of depression? It all depends on the response.

I think the words and music for this song capture that feeling of tentative joy perfectly. So I was surprised to learn that “Stuck In A Dream With Me” started out as an instrumental. It wasn’t until after lyricist K. Lawrence Dunham asked John Proulx if he could look through his tunes that it became a song. Amazing.

I heard John Proulx tell that story and sing “Stuck In A Dream” on Michael Feinstein’s much-missed radio program, “Song Travels,” on January 10, 2014. I know the date because the next day I emailed John to ask for a copy of the chart.
